Synchromode tool TrafficDash is now operational at Keukenhof

Steven Boerma, from MAPtm, partner of the SYNCHROMODE project, introduced TrafficDash to Henk de Mooij, park manager of Keukenhof, Netherlands.

TrafficDash is a Dashboard, developed by MAPtm, to be used as part of the SYNCHROMODE toolbox that enables Keukenhof to further improve Multimodal Traffic Management.

The dashboard provides a detailed overview of the real-time traffic situation including weather, rainfall and incidents in the northern region of Zuid-Holland. In the near future, the dashboard will also show public transport positions and delays, roadworks, weather predictions and bridge openings.

In the upcoming period, the SYNCHROMODE toolbox will be expanded with prediction modules to anticipate upcoming traffic situations even better.

Fourth General Assembly in Bilbao

The SYNCHROMODE partners gathered for their 4th GA in Bilbao, from 20^th to 22^nd of November 2024 hosted by Deusto University. 

The first morning was dedicated to an overview of the project management led by CERTH to prepare the mid-term review as the project reached month 18 at the end of October 2024. The three pilot sites from the Province of South Holland, Madrid and Thessaloniki could then explain the progress of their local experimentations: 

• Madrid pilot site gave insights on their 3^rd workshop held at the end of October and the status of their work on logistic delivery estimation and public transport demand prediction model.  

• The Thessaloniki team updated about the 10 uses cases they are developping (resilient traffic management – event management, combined passenger and freight transport management, MaaS, high fidelity traffic management…).  

• The Province of South-Holland organised a workshop on 7^th of October to tackle the issue of busy beach days and showed its map of stakeholders in charge of traffic management. 

The following presentations were dedicated to the technical developments of the project: 

• Rupprecht consulting gave some updates on the users’ needs, system requirements definition and governance models. 

• Nommon explained the status of the data gathering, fusion and analysis. 

• UCL then presented the progresses made on modelling, simulation and the prediction of multimodal solutions 

The second day began with the presentation of the dissemination and communication of the project’s results. POLIS Network is in charge of the communication of the project on the various social media channels and at the relevant events. SYNCHROMODE has been featured in all the major sector events during the year as the ITS World Congress in Dubai from 16^th to 20^th of September, the CIVITAS Forum in Parma from 1^st to 3^rd of October and the POLIS Conference on 27^th & 28^th of November. SYNCHROMODE is also playing an active role within the Multimodal Traffic Management Cluster, coordinating the writing and publication of its Roadmap for 2030. PNO then presented their workplan to develop the exploitation strategy and the business modelling. They shared their definition of the Key Exploitable Results (KER) of the project. The University of Deusto then explained the status of their work package that aims at developing a framework for transport network management which allows to optimise mobility flows of passengers and freights. The day ended with the presentation of VMZ and Yunex, in charge of integrating the SYNCHROMODE modules and the case studies in one toolbox. 

The last day was dedicated to the last discussion about the integration of all modules and to the preparation of the mid-term review meeting.

ITS Congress Dubai

SYNCHROMODE was present at the 30th ITS World Congress in Dubai from 16th to 20th of September 2024. This congress is organised by ERTICO every two years in Europe, and every third year in the EMEA region. This year’s congress was the first one in the UAE, displaying Dubai’s innovative landscape.

SYNCHROMODE was featured in the Special Interest session “SIS 85 Advanced multimodal network and traffic management: the latest advances of EU research”. The session was moderated by Evangelos Mitsakis from CERTH-HIT, coordinator of the SYNCHROMODE project. Dimitris Tzanis presented the SYNCHROMODE project along:

• Giannis Kanellopoulos from ICCS Greece, coordinator of the DELPHI project
• Trond Hovland from ITS Norway
• Pol Torres fro Eurecat, Spain
• Tiago Dias from a-to-be, Portugal
• Charalampos Sipetas from Aalto University, part of the coordination of the ACUMEN project

They presented the challenges, innovative concepts, solutions and results in the domain of multimodal traffic management. Dimitris Tzanis from SYNCHROMODE focused his presentation on “Advanced Traffic Management Solutions for Synchronized and Resilient Multimodal Transport Services” which aims at enhancing multimodal network and traffic management through the development of innovative algorithms, methods and tools.

All research projects featured (SYNCHROMODE, ACUMEN, DELPHI, ORCHESTRA, FRONTIER) are funded under the Horizon Europe Framework Programme, managed by CINEA and are part of the Multimodal Traffic Management Cluster.

ITS Hellas 9th conference in Athens

SYNCHROMODE was present at the ITS Hellas 9^th Conference on the 5^th and 6^th of June in Athens. This event was organised by the Hellenic Association for the deployment of Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS Hellas) together with the Research University Institute of Communication and Computer Systems of NTUA. The main theme was “Smart Transport & Logistics 2024: Explore. Innovate. Transform”, focusing on the developments in the field of Intelligent Transport Systems in Greece. 

Evangelos Mitsakis, coordinator of the SYNCHROMODE project, delivered a presentation emphasizing its scope and the development of the SYNCHROMODE Toolbox as its primary outcome. He detailed the services, modules, and capabilities to be integrated into the SYNCHROMODE Toolbox, accompanied by three case studies showcasing its diverse real-world applications.

Furthermore, Yunex, a leader in intelligent traffic systems, addressed the audience, discussing current traffic management measures and strategies implemented in Athens. The presentation also touched upon the daily challenges faced by the Traffic Management Center. 

This event was also the opportunity to showcase the sister projects of SYNCHROMODE, gathered in the Multimodal Traffic Management Cluster (MTMC). This cluster gathers seven Horizon Europe projects researching the network and traffic management of future mobility. 

The key lessons learned from this event underscored the critical need for traffic management systems capable of accurately capturing current traffic conditions, predicting future conditions with precision, and promptly leveraging these capabilities to alleviate and proactively manage multimodal traffic networks. 

Third General Assembly in the hague

The SYNCHROMODE partners gathered from the 22^nd  to the 24^th April in the Hague, Netherlands, hosted by the Province of South Holland.
